"Obeying his instructions, Elias stopped the car in front of a house of vague appearance, mounted on the pavement, which stood high above the road. A man in shirtsleeves got out to open the door. His face lit up when he saw the car and the group of visitors. - Come in, gentlemen, come in. - They crossed the threshold of the Seven Mirrors and found a short, narrow staircase. From a narrow landing, they passed into the hall that gave the house its name. It was a hall that could only exist in a port and would surely be a favorite haunt of the crews. Seven great old mirrors, with monumental gilt frames, were attached to the four walls. These were the pride of the house, and to see them there unscathed, surely after many years, one wondered what angelic power could have preserved them from the flying bottle that would not have failed at any of the parties held there."

"Elias befolgte seine Anweisungen und hielt den Wagen vor einem Haus von vager Erscheinung an, das hoch über der Straße auf dem Bürgersteig stand. Ein Mann in Hemdsärmeln stieg aus, um die Tür zu öffnen. Sein Gesicht erhellte sich, als er das Auto und die Besuchergruppe sah. - Treten Sie ein, meine Herren, treten Sie ein. - Sie überquerten die Schwelle des Sieben Spiegels und fanden eine kurze, schmale Treppe. Über einen schmalen Treppenabsatz gelangten sie in den Saal, der dem Haus seinen Namen gab. Es war ein Saal, wie es ihn nur in einem Hafen geben konnte und der sicherlich ein beliebter Aufenthaltsort für die Besatzung war. Sieben große alte Spiegel mit monumentalen vergoldeten Rahmen waren an den vier Wänden angebracht. Sie waren der Stolz des Hauses, und wenn man sie dort nach vielen Jahren unversehrt sah, fragte man sich, welche Engelsmacht sie vor der fliegenden Flasche bewahrt haben mochte, die bei keiner der dort abgehaltenen Partys fehlgeschlagen wäre."

“Obedeciendo a sus instrucciones, Elías detuvo el coche frente a una casa de fisonomía imprecisa, montada en la acera, que quedaba muy alta sobre la calzada. Un hombre en mangas de camisa salió a abrir. Su cara se iluminó al ver el automóvil y el grupo de visitantes. - Pasen señores, adelante. - Traspusieron el umbral de los Siete Espejos y se encontraron con una escalera corta y estrecha. Desde un estrecho rellano, pasaron al salón que daba nombre a la casa. Era un salón que solo podía existir en un puerto y seguramente sería el rincón preferido de las tripulaciones. Siete grandes y antiguos espejos, con monumentales marcos dorados, estaban adosados a los cuatro muros. Estos eran el orgullo de la casa, y al verlos allí incólumes, seguramente después de varios años, uno se preguntaba qué poder angélico podía haberlos preservado de la botella voladora que no habría faltado en ninguna de las fiestas que allí se celebraban.”
